*Race Notes: ALYSHEBA, carefully handled when caught in close quarters between horses just after the start, advanced steadily to reach contention approaching the stretch, stumbled when he clipped the heels of BET TWICE just inside the final three-sixteenths, came out to avoid that rival again leaving the furlong grounds and proved best under strong handling. BET TWICE, never far back, rallied from the outside approaching the end of the backstretch, caught ON THE LINE soon after starting the final turn, then swerved repeatedly under pressure during the drive bothering ALYSHEBA a couple of times and continued on gamely. COAX ME CHAD, outrun to the far turn, moved through along the drive and finished well to best the others. *Race Notes: SUNNY'S HALO, rating kindly from the beginning, assumed command on his own courage in the backstretch, drew away from DESERT WINE under a hand ride in the upper stretch and maintained his margin under steady light hand urging the final furlong. DESERT WINE stalked SUNNY'S HALO after drawing on almost even terms with him at the quarter-pole, but continued resolutely under left hand urging and held off CAVEAT'S later bid for the place. CAVEAT, taken in hand and eased toward the inside for a saving of ground after the start, was forced extremely wide rallying around CURRENT HOPE into the stretch and closed steadily in a very good effort. SLEW O' GOLD, bothered slightly by PLAY FELLOW at the start, saved ground most of the way and bested MARFA in a duel with that rival through the homestretch. *Race Notes: GATO DEL SOL came away relaxed in last position and clear of horses, advanced on the outside under his own courage in the backstretch, picked up the field with a strong run completing the turn to take command before the furlong pole, was unaffected by REINVESTED leaning on him briefly and drew clear under strong right hand use of the whip into the final yards. LASER LIGHT also relaxed in the early running, followed GATO DEL SOL around horses leaving the backstretch and was wide straightening away for the final stretch drive, loomed boldly but could not sustain his bid while gamely besting REINVESTED for the place. REINVESTED, intimidated by WATER BANK leaving the half-mile marker and bothering CASSALERIA, swung slightly out on that rival getting room on the outside to follow GATO DEL SOL approaching mid-stretch, leaned in briefly under right hand urging and hung. *Race Notes: PLEASANT COLONY, taken in reserve leaving the gate and then patiently and well ridden, was under good control by the jockey while rapidly working into contention through the field on the final turn and settled outside the leaders for the drive at the head of the stretch. He raced past PARTEZ with authority with Velasquez using the whip four times left-handed and once on the right, and was ridden out by hand to hold WOODCHOPPER safe. WOODCHOPPER, also held in reserve the first half-mile, lost ground advancing outside horses and closed resolutely from the top of the stretch to be gradually increasing his advantage over the others. PARTEZ, reserved just off the first flight for a half-mile, reached the front between colts in the early stretch but offered no resistance to the winner, relaxed when Hawley misjudged the finish line and rose in the irons at the sixteenth pole as he was relinquishing second to WOODCHOPPER, then finished evenly with the jockey riding him out the final yards. CLASSIC GO GO, another reserved off of the fast early pace, advanced steadily on the final turn and into the last furlong, then was hanging at the end. *Race Notes: GENUINE RISK settled nicely as the field came away in good order and was reserved behind PLUGGED NICKLE and inside WITHHOLDING around the first turn and early backstretch. She was eased back slightly and moved to the outside smoothly approaching the half-mile pole, gradually raced to the leaders outside four rivals, and took command entering the stretch; was hit once with the whip right-handed, increased her advantage under six well spaced strokes as Vasquez switched to the left, and continued resolutely to the end. RUMBO dropped back last soon after the start and was kept outside rivals, gradually improving position, swerved under right-handed urging after racing wide into the stretch, and gained steadily under heavy left-handed urging in the final furlong. JAKLIN KLUGMAN saved ground behind the first flight, worked between rivals around the final turn, and moved boldly in pursuit of the winner settling into the homestretch, but could not sustain his bid. SUPER MOMENT stayed close to the rail and closed well from the head of the stretch to out finish the others. ROCKHILL NATIVE had no difficulty taking a clear lead from between rivals entering the backstretch, but swerved out and was lightly checked for a stride approaching the six-furlong pole, stayed with the pace to the top of the homestretch, and then weakened. BOLD 'N RULLING raced with the pace along the rail for six furlongs, gave way approaching the stretch and drifted out, then held on fairly well in the straightaway, but pulled up lame.
